Angel Diego Garcia Otaola was born in Burgos (Spain), where he grew up, until he entered the Marist Brothers’ congregation at the age of 20. He has worked as a teacher in severa schools in Spain. The first important contact with the world of the Rights of the Child came with his appointment as Director of the Centre for Minors “Hogar Champagnat”, for children who did not have or could not be with their parents. There, he had his first concrete experience of defending the rights of children. Since September 2019, he has been in charge of the Bureau of Solidarity of the Marist Institute, which includes the whole area of the defense of Human Rights, especially centered on the Rights of Children. In this area, he coordinates and encourages advocacy work in Geneva, as well as in different countries where the Marists carry out their educational work.
